This piece of work was created by Michelle Dickson, it was inspired by her interest in nature and how nature symbolises us as humans. Dickson often uses driftwood, plaster, oil paint and wax to create surreal sculptures. This piece of art is from her series 'neither mine nor yours' and combined a plaster cast of her own face and driftwood she had collected. Her inspiration for this idea came from decaying driftwood as it showed how over time things decay including ourselves. This piece in particular has inspired my choice of design for my 3D sculpture as it incorporates driftwood, a material I would also be interested in using. Nature inspires me a lot when creating art just like it does for Dickson as I feel nature shows peace. I feel the composition she has used to create this piece shows an essence of peace because the face looks quite relaxed like she is laying down or asleep because the eyes are closed. The colours used are just the natural colours of nature like driftwood which really grab your attention of why the sculpture was created. I like this sculpture as it is a really simple and elegant piece with minimal colour however it still manages to have a lot of meaning behind it.
